Sabrina Kerckhove created « Mummy Needs » to promote a Uninhibited Motherhood, liberated from the pressure to be a perfect Mum at all times.
The objective of « Mummy Needs » to bring together mums from all horizons around the same topic : Their Time Management as Women and Mothers. I want to organize opportunities to bring mums together around common topics, allow them to take the time for themselves et to escape. I will also be launching a collection of T-shirts for all mums, whether they are active, loving, sometimes lost… who have the right to have a bit of a breakdown and … to have a Martini from time to time
I had been dreaming about building my own business for a while, but I just didn’t find the time and I also wanted to create something special and personal. I had been thinking for a while about a concept of uninhibited motherhood which led to « Mummy Needs ». When I became an adult and a mother myself, I realised that my mother had forgotten about herself out of sheer dedication to her family, and I didn’t want to make that same mistake. And then I also realized : I suffered from Maternal Burnout after the birth of my 2 boys.
I think I had been in a Semi-Burn-out Situation for a while which became worse when my youngest son was very ill at birth. I was in absolute shock and fear for three months and I broke down : I had no energy, no more cravings, I was lost. I felt no longer capable to look after my boys and I was feeling extremely guilty.
I took me a while to admit that I had a problem, but it was only on the day that I embraced my vulnerability that I found my way to improvement and « better »-being. I realised that I needed to be a bit more selfish and to put myself also in my list of priorities. A Well-balanced and Positive Mum will always create a positive environment.
A Burn-out is always a very sensitive topic, even with your loved-ones. In current society it’s not always easy to accept a feeling of failure and loss of power and control. « Mummy Needs » wants to bring together mums and women so they can help each other, share, support and listen, in good faith, without judgement.
There is a definite need to open up about Maternal Burn-Out, de-dramatise the topic and start working on prevention. Humour and fun is always the best solution when it comes to chill out the Mums. We have the right to be tired, to feel alone, to be completely lost. Sometimes we don’t want to look after the kids, we want to just run away, go on strike, take a bath and say… adios amigos, and that’s just fine.
In November we will be launching 2 Branded T-shirts for « Mummy Needs a Martini » and « Mummy Needs a Timeout« . We will also be launching our Website with an E-Commerce Platform which will have Interviews of « Imperfect Heroines » every month. Later on, I am hoping to be able to organise « Mummy Needs Retreats » and develop a venue, dedicated to Mothers, Women and Their Me-Time.
